New Orleans, LA, February 7, 2004 --

With technical guidance from Save Our Cemeteries, over 400 volunteers in the travel industry rolled up their sleeves and kicked in to clean, paint and stabilize historic tombs in St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 in New Orleans, one of the city's oldest and most important burial grounds. The project was hosted by the Travelers Conservation Foundation as its Tourism-Caring for America event of 2004. Jon Gerlach, an archaeologist with Safe Passage International, served as the project photographer and donated his photographs to the Travelers Conservation Foundation after completion of the work.
