Jon Gerlach brings more than 30 years of legal and insurance experience to his role as Manager and General Counsel of Safe Passage International. He works closely with staff, clients, reinsurance intermediaries, third party administrators, producers, insurance company legal departments, auditors, underwriters, and accountants.
Jon Gerlach graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and subsequently received a Master’s degree in Anthropology at Arizona State University and a law degree from the University of Richmond.

Mr. Irwin formed Safe Passage International to create valuable, reasonably priced medical and travel related insurance programs for students, international organizations (e.g., World Bank, United Nations), non-governmental organizations (aid and relief groups), media companies, travel suppliers, and private enterprise. Since its inception in 1985 in Washington, DC, Safe Passage International and its underwriters have created innovative medical, war risk, and travel protection plans carried by millions of people living or traveling away from their home.
Mr. Irwin developed a variety of approaches to designing student medical insurance programs including partnering U.S. based insurers with creative European reinsurers and combining multiple types of needed coverage in a single insurance package. Safe Passage International student medical plans are offered through colleges and universities, education agencies, student insurance brokers, and other student support organizations.
Jim graduated from Georgia Tech with an Industrial Management degree.
